Sun Protection

Skin Cancer is One of the Most Common Cancers World Wide

Skin cancer is also one of the most preventable. The primary cause is excessive ultraviolet radiation from the sun or from tanning beds. UVR protection is especially important for children because exposure at a young age can pave the way for cancers in adulthood, including melanoma. Avoid tanning beds, adopt sun safety habits (sun screen), and get an annual skin exam from a board-certified dermatologist.

Equally important is inspiring legislators to enact policy that would ban UV-emitting devices and their use, particularly in youth. Similarly, working with school systems to provide age-appropriate curriculum to educate children about sun safety.
